South West Woodland Nature Reserve

South West Woodland Nature Reserve is a large, fragmented protected area in inland New South Wales, Australia. Rather than forming a single contiguous block, the reserve is composed of twenty-seven separate precincts scattered across the South Western Slopes, Riverina, and Murray Darling Depression bioregions, stretching roughly from Peak Hill in the north to Berrigan in the south. The precincts were formerly state forests managed for cypress pine timber, and they retain the names of the original state forest designations. When the areas were reassessed and transferred to conservation management, they were combined into a single nature reserve focused on protecting the surviving native woodland and forest communities of inland southern New South Wales. Ecologically, the reserve is significant for its stands of white cypress pine and various eucalypt woodlands, alongside threatened bird and mammal species. It is classified as a strict nature reserve under IUCN Category Ia, reflecting its focus on ecological preservation rather than public recreation.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
