Taal Volcano Protected Landscape

Taal Volcano Protected Landscape is a nationally designated protected natural area in the Philippines, established in 1996 to safeguard the volcanic and lacustrine system surrounding Taal Volcano on the western side of Luzon. The protected area lies within the Calabarzon region and spans parts of Batangas Province and the city of Tagaytay in Cavite, covering roughly 62,000 hectares of land around the Taal caldera and the lake that fills it. At the heart of the protected landscape stands Taal Volcano itself, a complex volcano whose large main crater holds Taal Lake rather than an open vent, with a smaller island and another crater lake nested inside. This nested island-in-lake-in-island configuration gives the area a distinctive geological character that has made it one of the most recognized volcanic landmarks in the Philippines. The protected area combines volcanic terrain, a large freshwater lake, forested ridges, and surrounding agricultural and settlement lands that are stitched into the management perimeter. In 2006 the Department of Environment and Natural Resources proposed the area for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, reflecting its recognized natural significance at the national level.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
