Day Forest National Park

Day Forest National Park is a protected area located in the Goda Mountains of Djibouti's Tadjourah Region, representing one of the most ecologically significant landscapes in this Horn of Africa nation. Established in 1939, it is Djibouti's oldest national park and the country's largest forest area, spanning approximately 5,900 hectares. The park occupies a unique position as one of only two remaining areas of closed-protected forest in Djibouti, a country that ranks among the least forested on Earth. The region receives approximately 500 millimetres of annual precipitation, making it the wettest part of Djibouti and enabling the survival of forests in what would otherwise be a semi-desert environment. The park protects an isolated forest island surrounded by arid terrain, serving as a critical refuge for endemic species found nowhere else on the planet.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
