Dubravos Reserve (Dubrava Strict Nature Reserve)

Dubravos rezervatinė apyrubė is a strict nature reserve located in the municipality of Kaunas district in central Lithuania. Designated as an IUCN Category Ia protected area, the reserve covers approximately 120 hectares within the larger Dubrava Forest and protects rare forest habitats, productive coniferous stands, and valuable plant communities. The reserve sits among selected forest compartments of the Vaišvydava forest district within the Dubrava Forest complex. Roughly a quarter of the protected area consists of a natural raised bog, giving the reserve a distinctive wetland character alongside its tall pine stands, some of which reach heights of more than 33 meters, with the tallest measured pine standing at 38 meters. Although formally established as a reserve in 1994, the area has been under protective management since 1968, making it one of the older examples of strictly protected forest landscape in Lithuania. The reserve is administered by the State Service for Protected Areas and serves as a reference site for long-term, undisturbed forest and bog dynamics in the region.
