Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National Park is a protected wilderness area in the Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka, India. The park derives its name from the Kudremukh mountain, which translates literally to horse-face, referring to a distinctive profile view of the peak that resembles a horse's face. Spanning approximately 600 square kilometers, this park represents the largest declared wildlife protected area of tropical wet evergreen forest in the Western Ghats, one of the world's twenty-five biodiversity hotspots. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, steep western slopes along the Ghat ridge line, and a unique mosaic of shola forest and grasslands at higher elevations. Three major rivers, the Tunga, Bhadra, and Nethravathi, originate from the park's abundant rainfall, making it a critical watershed for the surrounding regions. The park is recognized as a Global Tiger Conservation Priority-I area and serves as crucial habitat for several endangered species including the lion-tailed macaque, tigers, leopards, and the rare malabar civet.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
