Manusela National Park

Manusela National Park is a protected area located on Seram island, the largest island in the Maluku archipelago of eastern Indonesia. Established in 1997, the park encompasses approximately 1,890 square kilometers of diverse ecosystems including coastal forest, swamp forest, lowland rainforest, and montane rainforest. The park protects six mountains, with Mount Binaiya rising to 3,027 meters as the island's highest peak. Seram island is remarkable for its exceptional degree of localized bird endemism, with 15 of the island's 118 bird species found nowhere else on Earth. The park also contains important karst landscapes and houses Goa Hatusaka, Indonesia's deepest cave. Four villages exist within the park boundaries, home to the Manusela people whose name means bird of freedom in their local language.
