Réserve naturelle régionale du coteau et plateau de Tessé

The Réserve naturelle régionale du coteau et plateau de Tessé is a small regional nature reserve in the Pays de la Loire region of northwestern France. Located in the department of Sarthe, on the commune of Villaines-la-Carelle, it lies along the edge of the Rutin valley and protects a compact parcel of calcareous grassland and plateau habitat. The reserve was classified in December 2009 and covers just over five hectares of exposed limestone terrain. Its ecological interest is closely tied to the underlying oolithic limestone, which prevents cultivation and has historically supported pastoral activity. In turn, this has produced a species-rich calcareous grassland that harbors protected plants, rare butterflies, and a distinctive assemblage of grasshoppers and other insects. Managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de la Sarthe, the reserve is registered under the code RNR214 and classified as a Category IV protected area under the IUCN system. Although modest in size, it is locally important for the conservation of dry calcareous habitats in the Sarthe.

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.
