Thung Salaeng Luang National Park is one of Thailand's largest and oldest protected areas, spanning approximately 1,262 square kilometers across Phitsanulok and Phetchabun Provinces in central-northern Thailand. Established as the country's third national park in 1963 and formally reestablished in 1975, the park encompasses a distinctive landscape characterized by limestone hills, rolling meadows, and extensive savanna habitats. The park's name translates to 'Great Salaeng Plain' and is locally known as 'Thailand's savanna' due to its extensive grassland ecosystems that are rare in the region. The area rises from around 300 meters to the summit of Khao Khae at 1,028 meters, creating a varied terrain of forested slopes, open meadows, and dramatic rock formations. The Wang Thong River flows through the park, feeding numerous streams and waterfalls that dot the landscape.
