Val di Mello

Val di Mello is a lateral side valley of Val Masino, located in the province of Sondrio in the Italian Alps of Lombardy. The valley runs broadly from west to east, beginning near the village of San Martino and ending against the massif of Monte Disgrazia, whose summit remains visible beyond the watershed ridge. The valley is defined by its enormous expanse of smooth, light-colored granitic rock faces, locally called ghiandone. These walls extend from the highest summits above three thousand meters down toward the valley floor below one thousand meters, producing a strikingly bright, vertical landscape set among pine forests, alpine meadows, and glacier-carved cirques. Val di Mello is best known as one of Italy's most celebrated outdoor destinations, attracting mountaineers, rock climbers, and hikers drawn by the unique combination of wild Alpine scenery, a recognized natural reserve, and a long tradition of climbing culture that includes routes pioneered in the late 1970s.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
