Windsor Downs Nature Reserve

Windsor Downs Nature Reserve is a small protected area on the Cumberland Plain in western Sydney, New South Wales, established in 1990. Covering roughly 364 hectares, the reserve protects one of the last remaining stands of Cumberland Plain Woodland, an endangered ecological community once widespread across the lowlands west of Sydney and now largely cleared for urban development and agriculture. The landscape combines ironbark-dominated open forest on heavier clay soils with sclerophyll woodland on sandier ground, and includes areas of former grazing land now regenerating with native hakeas. The reserve is recognized for its conservation significance, supporting threatened plant species such as Persoonia nutans and Dillwynia tenuifolia, and providing habitat for the endangered regent honeyeater. Today the reserve is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and serves as an important island of native vegetation amid one of Australia's fastest-growing urban regions, with remnant industrial infrastructure from its earlier land use still visible within its boundaries.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
