Bents Basin State Conservation Area

Bents Basin State Conservation Area is a small protected reserve in the Sydney metropolitan area, in New South Wales, Australia, where the Nepean River emerges from a gorge cut through the Hawkesbury Sandstone. The circular basin that gives the area its name forms a lagoon-like swimming hole ringed by sandstone outcrops and backed by a floodplain and a plateau of Cumberland Plain soils. Surrounded by eucalyptus woodland, the reserve is one of the most popular water-based picnic parks in Greater Western Sydney and the only picnic area along the Nepean River. It combines a swimming and kayaking destination with bushland walking tracks, camping grounds, and an education centre, while also protecting native wildlife and rare plant communities in a small but ecologically rich footprint near Wallacia and Silverdale. Established as a state recreation area in 1994 and administered by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Bents Basin is recognised both for its recreational role in western Sydney and for the heritage and ecological values concentrated along this short stretch of the Nepean.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
