Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary

Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in northeastern Bhutan encompassing a vast tract of the Himalayan landscape across Lhuntse, Mongar, and Trashiyangtse Districts. The sanctuary contains the former Kulong Chu Wildlife Sanctuary within its boundaries and encompasses the Bumdeling Valley along with several alpine lakes. It serves as one of only two known wintering sites in Bhutan for the globally significant black-necked crane, a species that migrates from the Tibetan Plateau. The area supports resident communities of approximately 3,000 households who maintain traditional land-use practices within the sanctuary's diverse ecosystems.
