Chełm Landscape Park

Chełm Landscape Park is a protected landscape area situated in the Chełm County of the Lublin Voivodeship in eastern Poland. Established in 1983, it covers roughly 16,457 hectares across five rural municipalities and is bordered by a buffer zone of more than 10,800 hectares, giving the complex a total protected footprint of well over 27,000 hectares. The park was created primarily to safeguard ecologically valuable forest and peatland systems that support rare and legally protected species of plants and animals. A defining feature of the area is the abundance of calcium carbonate in the substrate, which has produced unusual plant communities, including nationally unique calcareous peatlands dominated by tufted sedge meadows. Today the landscape park is recognized as one of the most important refugia for wetland birds, peatland flora, and invertebrates in eastern Poland. It contains four nature reserves within its boundaries and one additional reserve in its buffer zone, making it a focal point for nature conservation in the region between the Pagóry Chełmskie hills and the Obniżenie Dubieńskie lowland.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
