Cuthbert Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Cuthbert Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a small protected area on the eastern coast of the Middle Andaman Islands, within the Indian Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Established in 1997 and classified as an IUCN Category IV habitat and species management area, the sanctuary covers roughly 5.8 square kilometres of coastal terrain along one of the island chain's most important sea turtle nesting beaches. Despite its modest size, the sanctuary holds disproportionate ecological significance within the Andaman archipelago. It functions as a nesting site for three of the four marine turtle species that regularly visit the islands, with hundreds of turtles returning to its beaches each year to lay their eggs. The surrounding habitats also support populations of spotted deer, a variety of birds, and butterflies, giving the small reserve a broad faunal character beyond its marine emphasis. As one of the recognised wildlife sanctuaries of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Cuthbert Bay contributes to the region's wider role in protecting island and coastal biodiversity. Its combination of nesting beaches, coastal forest, and accessible location on Middle Andaman makes it both a conservation asset and a point of interest for visitors exploring the eastern coast of the island.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
