Cygański Las

Cygański Las is a forested protected landscape in the southern part of Bielsko-Biała, on the lower slopes of the Silesian Beskids. It lies on the hillsides of Kołowrót, Kozia Góra, Równia, and Górna Równia, within the Olszówka and Mikuszowice districts, and functions both as a remnant of an old communal forest and as an urban-adjacent natural area. The area is protected as a zespoł przyrodniczo-krajobrazowy, a Polish designation for a protected landscape complex, established in 1997 and later adjusted in 2004 to its present extent. Beyond its natural value, Cygański Las has shaped tourism in southern Bielsko-Biała for more than a century, with marked hiking trails leading toward Szyndzielnia, Klimczok, Magurka Wilkowicka, and Kozia Góra. The name itself reflects the layered cultural history of Bielsko and the Silesian region. It is a literal translation from the German Zigeunerwald, which in turn is a folk-etymological distortion of an older form meaning "Goat Forest." The forest also served as a backdrop to the late 19th-century development of Mikuszowice Śląskie as a summer resort for the wealthier residents of Bielsko.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
