El Jabalí Flora and Fauna Protection Area

El Jabalí Flora and Fauna Protection Area is a protected natural area in the northern part of Colima State, Mexico, established in 2000 to safeguard forests, lakes, and a rich cross-section of wildlife on the lower western slopes of two major volcanoes. The reserve sits in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine–oak forests ecoregion, where montane oak and pine stands give way to remnant cloud forest and small patches of dry forest at lower elevations. Numerous natural lakes and streams descend from the volcanic heights above, creating a mosaic of wetlands and wooded slopes that supports a wide variety of mammals and birds. El Jabalí adjoins the much larger Volcán Nevado de Colima National Park, extending a continuous belt of protected habitat across one of the most volcanically dynamic landscapes in western Mexico. Managed under a framework that balances habitat preservation with sustainable use, the area places strict protections around its lagoon habitats while still permitting low-impact activities such as camping in designated zones.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
