Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve

Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is a protected wetland nature reserve located on the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, eastern Australia. The reserve protects some of the last high-elevation freshwater lagoons on basalt soil on the New England Tableland, including the 120-hectare Little Llangothlin Lagoon and the smaller Billy Bung Lagoon. Surrounded by pastoral farmland in a region that has lost most of its natural vegetation to agriculture, the reserve functions as a refuge for waterbirds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles that would otherwise struggle to find suitable habitat at this elevation. Beyond its regional importance, Little Llangothlin is recognised internationally for its wetland values. In 1996 the reserve was designated a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, placing it among a select group of Australian sites acknowledged for their global ecological significance. The reserve is also listed on Australia's Register of the National Estate, together with the adjacent Bagot Road area, reinforcing its role as one of the most important wetland conservation sites on the New England Plateau.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
