Réserve nationale de faune des îles de l'Estuaire

The Réserve nationale de faune des îles de l'Estuaire is a Canadian national wildlife area in the St. Lawrence Estuary, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. Stretching roughly 120 kilometres along the north shore of the estuary, it protects a scattered chain of about ten islands or island portions between Kamouraska and Rimouski, covering in the order of a few hundred hectares in total. The reserve is best known for safeguarding the largest common eider colony in the entire St. Lawrence Estuary, centred on Île Bicquette. By keeping terrestrial predators largely absent from its islands, it provides a vital refuge for nesting seabirds and waterbirds in one of the most heavily used marine areas of eastern Canada. The site sits within a broader network of conservation lands in the estuary, including the Saguenay–Saint-Laurent Marine Park and islands owned by non-profit conservation groups. It is managed by the Canadian Wildlife Service in partnership with these organizations, and, along with the surrounding waters, supports rich marine life, from harbour and grey seals to white beluga whales and migratory fish.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
