Réserve naturelle régionale des Annelles, Lains et Pont Pinnet

The Réserve naturelle régionale des Annelles, Lains et Pont Pinnet is a small regional nature reserve located in the Nord department of the Hauts-de-France region, just northeast of Douai on the commune of Roost-Warendin. Despite covering only 14 hectares, the reserve protects an unusually diverse succession of dry, wet, and peat-forming habitats that have emerged from a former wetland landscape partially filled in by mining spoil during the 19th and 20th centuries. The protected area is set between the canalized Scarpe River and the Scarpe diversion canal, in the immediate vicinity of historical coal-mining basins and still-active metallurgical industry, including the former Métaleurop-Nord site and the Auby plant. This industrial inheritance is one of the reserve's defining features: it has produced both a coal-shale tip known as the Escarpelle terril and ancient peatland that gives the site its notable botanical and ecological character. The reserve is recognized for the density of habitats packed into a compact surface, hosting habitats listed under the European Habitats Directive, numerous plant species of regional interest, a rich amphibian population, and several rare metallophyte plant communities adapted to heavy-metal soils. Its creation in 2010 marked the culmination of a long local effort to safeguard a fragment of an otherwise heavily transformed mining and industrial landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
