Réserve naturelle régionale du bas-marais tourbeux de la Basse-Goulandière

The Réserve naturelle régionale du bas-marais tourbeux de la Basse-Goulandière is a small regional nature reserve in the Pays de la Loire region of western France. Classed in 2011, it covers around 38 hectares in the department of Sarthe, on the commune of Parigné-l'Évêque, about 12 kilometres southeast of Le Mans. The reserve protects one of the few surviving alkaline lowland peatlands, or bas-marais alcalins, of the Sarthe, bordered by the Roule-Crottes stream. What makes the site distinctive is the mosaic of wet and dry habitats it gathers within a compact area: peat-forming mires at its core, surrounded by marshland, heathland, and woodland. Together these habitats support a regionally important flora, including several protected plant species, as well as nationally protected insects, amphibians, and bats. The reserve is managed by the commune of Parigné-l'Évêque, with on-the-ground conservation work handled by the local Conservatoire d'espaces naturels since 1997. Despite its modest size, the Basse-Goulandière reserve is a meaningful example of regional wetland conservation in north-western France. It sits within a broader Site of Community Importance that links the Narais valley, the Bercé forest, and the Dinan stream, anchoring the small peatland inside a wider ecological network.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
