Jezioro Orchowe Nature Reserve

Jezioro Orchowe Nature Reserve is a small peatland nature reserve in eastern Poland, located within the Sobiborski Landscape Park and the broader Polesie Zachodnie Biosphere Reserve. It protects a shallow, dystrophic lake and the surrounding transitional peatlands in a depression of the Bug river valley, within the administrative area of Włodawa rural commune in Lublin Voivodeship. The reserve was established in 1996 specifically to preserve, for scientific and educational purposes, the lake and its surrounding peat bogs with their unique vascular flora. Although the lake itself covers only about 8 hectares, the protected area extends across roughly 58 hectares, encompassing both aquatic, mire, and forest plant communities that together form a coherent wetland ecosystem in one of Poland's most ecologically distinctive lowland landscapes. Ecologically, the reserve is notable for the contrast between its open-water habitats, its floating and emergent vegetation, and the wooded peatlands that fringe them. The combination of dystrophic waters, transitional mires, and surrounding coniferous forest habitats gives the site a particularly rich and layered plant community structure, with numerous rare and protected species documented within its boundaries.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
