Riserva naturale speciale di Alfonsine

Riserva naturale speciale di Alfonsine is a small regional nature reserve in the lowlands of Emilia-Romagna, in northeastern Italy, situated between the better-known wetland systems of the Valli di Argenta and the Valli di Comacchio. The reserve sits within the broader Parco regionale del Delta del Po, the protected regional system that surrounds the mouth of Italy's longest river. The reserve is composed of three separate oases that together cover roughly twelve hectares of land that was once used for human activity and has since been returned to nature. These oases include a humid woodland along an old mill canal, a marshy pond basin, and a rare example of a periodically flooded forest. The combination of standing water, wet woodland, and canals makes this small reserve an unusually rich habitat for waterbirds, herons, amphibians, and rare mammals in an otherwise heavily cultivated plain. Although it covers a very small surface area, the reserve plays a significant local role in safeguarding species that have become rare in the surrounding agricultural landscape. It is recognized as both a Site of Community Importance (SIC) and a Special Protection Area (ZPS) under the European Union nature conservation framework.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
