Wenderholm Regional Park

Wenderholm Regional Park is a 135-hectare regional park located on a peninsula north of Auckland, on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. It sits between the estuaries of the Puhoi River to the north and the Waiwera River to the south, combining a bush-covered headland, known as Maungatauhoro, with a low-lying sandspit at the mouth of the Puhoi. The park protects a mosaic of native forest, estuary tidal flats, and coastal scenery that has supported Māori settlement for centuries and later became the site of a 19th-century homestead, now known as Couldrey House. Established in 1965, Wenderholm was the first regional park created in the Auckland Region and is now owned and managed by Auckland Council. Roughly 60 hectares of the park have been excluded from grazing since its founding, allowing native bush to regenerate and creating a haven for reintroduced native birds, including the North Island robin, along with resident tūī, kererū, and fantails. The park is also known for its scenic walking tracks, its stands of pōhutukawa and kōwhai, and occasional offshore sightings of whales and dolphins.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
