Wernsdorfer See

Wernsdorfer See is a protected nature reserve in the state of Brandenburg, eastern Germany, set within the wide Berlin-Fürstenwalder Spree valley lowland. The reserve centers on a shallow eutrophic lake that has gradually filled in with sand and plant material since the last Ice Age, developing into a mosaic of open water, reedbeds, wet meadows, dunes, and dune grassland. The site is recognised for its rich birdlife and for harboring several protected plant species, including water caltrop, floating fern, and rare orchids. Because of its ecological value it has been designated as a European Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) area and is managed as part of Brandenburg's network of Natura 2000 sites. Beyond its ecological role, the lake and its surroundings carry a long history of human use, from prehistoric and Slavic settlement traces to nineteenth-century reed harvesting, twentieth-century dumping, and modern conservation management that has gradually restored the wetland's condition.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
