Cerro Mohinora

Cerro Mohinora is a 3,300-meter summit in the Sierra Madre Occidental of northern Mexico, located in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo in the state of Chihuahua. Classified as an extinct volcano, it rises as a prominent peak on a long volcanic range whose geological roots stretch back to the Paleogene, with the modern summit uplifted during the Pleistocene. Since 2012, the mountain and its surrounding terrain have been protected as a Mexican Flora and Fauna Protection Area (Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna). Conservation efforts here focus on a high-elevation environment that hosts more than 310 species of plants and animals, including species listed under Mexico's official risk categories. At its elevation the peak supports a cold, continental climate with heavy winter snowfall and cool, monsoonal summers, giving the protected area a distinctive alpine character within the otherwise warm and rugged Sierra Madre Occidental corridor where Mexico's interior highlands meet the northern ranges.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
