Gumbaynggirr State Conservation Area

Gumbaynggirr State Conservation Area is a protected conservation reserve on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. Covering roughly 2,561 hectares west of the coastal town of Nambucca Heads, the reserve protects two distinct tracts of forest, including the subtropical rainforest known as the League Scrub and an adjoining area formerly protected as the Little Wonder State Forest. The conservation area is notable for preserving one of the few remaining stands of tall subtropical jungle on the Mid North Coast. Its rainforest has never been commercially logged, and the canopy rises to around 40 metres above a diverse understorey. The reserve also reflects an important local conservation history, with the Little Wonder section saved from logging through a year long community blockade in the early 1990s. Taken together, these qualities give Gumbaynggirr State Conservation Area a strong identity as both an ecological refuge and a community driven forest protection success. It is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and its name acknowledges the Gumbaynggirr people, the Traditional Owners of the surrounding landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
