Mount Harriet National Park

Mount Harriet National Park is a protected natural area located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands union territory of India, situated on the eastern side of South Andaman Island approximately 20 kilometers from Port Blair. The park encompasses the forested slopes of Mount Manipur, also known as Mount Harriet, which rises to approximately 481 meters and ranks as the third-highest peak in the entire Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. Established as a national park in 1979, the area was originally designated as a reserve forest and transitioned to full protection status to preserve its significant ecological diversity. The park's name commemorates Harriet C. Tytler, the wife of British army officer and naturalist Robert Christopher Tytler, who served as Superintendent of the Convict Settlement at Port Blair during the 1860s. The mountain and its surrounding landscape have achieved notable cultural recognition, appearing on the reverse side of the Indian twenty-rupee banknote.
