Parque rural de Doramas

Parque rural de Doramas is a protected rural landscape in the north of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. It stretches across six municipalities, including Arucas, Firgas, Moya, Santa María de Guía, Teror, and Valleseco, occupying roughly 3,586 hectares of rugged mid-elevation terrain shaped by deep ravines and steep barrancos cut into the island's northern flanks. Although the area has a long history of agricultural use, it remains one of the most important refuges for surviving fragments of Canarian laurel forest, or laurisilva, on Gran Canaria. Within its bounds lie well-preserved sites such as Barranco de los Tilos, Azuaje, and Barranco Oscuro, which together form a critical stronghold of humid, broadleaf evergreen woodland in an island that has lost most of its original forest cover. The park derives its identity from the historical Selva de Doramas, the legendary laurel forest of northern Gran Canaria named after the indigenous warrior Doramas. Today it functions as a protected rural landscape balancing traditional land use with the conservation of endemic flora, native fauna, and some of the rarest laurel forest remnants in the Canary archipelago.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
