Subotička Peščara

Subotička Peščara is an inland dune habitat located in northern Serbia along the Hungarian border, within the far north of the Bačka region and the municipality of Subotica. This protected landscape of outstanding features encompasses approximately 53.7 square kilometers of undulating sand dunes that resulted from past aeolian activity. The area has been extensively forested since the late 18th century, and today the habitat comprises a diverse mosaic of forest, steppe, and wetland ecosystems. The eastern portion of the area follows the course of the border river Kereš. The sands represent one of the most significant sandy terrain complexes in Vojvodina, second only to the Deliblatska peščara, and form part of a larger transboundary dune system that continues into Hungary's Kiskunság region.
