Western Sydney Parklands

Western Sydney Parklands is a large urban park system and nature reserve situated in Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Stretching roughly 27 kilometres in a narrow north-south band, it follows the western alignment of the M7 motorway and links the City of Blacktown, the City of Fairfield, and the City of Liverpool. The parklands are administered by the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service and listed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. The parkland's character combines patches of surviving Cumberland Plain Woodland, extensive areas of planted re-vegetation, cleared grasslands, and a conspicuous north-south ridge that provides panoramic views over Greater Western Sydney. It also contains the headwaters of Eastern Creek and sits across the catchment boundary of the Hawkesbury-Nepean, Georges River, and Parramatta River systems. Western Sydney Parklands is notable for blending conservation of an endangered ecological community with extensive public recreation. The park includes sixteen precincts and around fifty individual park areas, with picnic facilities, walking and cycling tracks, sporting venues, and children's playgrounds. It attracted between roughly 430,000 and 790,000 visitors annually in 2009-10 and has been shaped by Aboriginal heritage, colonial-era land use, Sydney Olympics infrastructure, and ongoing ecological restoration.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
