Established in 1951, it represents one of the older protected areas in the Queensland national park system. The park protects a mosaic of tall open forest, woodland, and riparian habitats that support remarkable botanical diversity, with 456 plant species recorded within its boundaries. This relatively small reserve harbours significant ecological value, including thirteen rare or endangered plant species and habitat for the vulnerable tusked frog.
