Hustai National Park

Hustai National Park is a protected area in central Mongolia, set in the forested ridges of the Khustai Mountains in Töv Province. It is one of the country's best-known national parks and a flagship site for steppe and mountain-steppe conservation, where the Tuul River carves through rolling foothills and open grasslands. The park is internationally significant as the home of a successful reintroduction program for the Przewalski's horse, also known as the Takhi, after the species had disappeared from the wild in the twentieth century. Since the early 1990s, wild-born herds of these horses have again roamed the slopes and valleys of the Khustai range. Beyond the Takhi, Hustai protects a rich cross-section of Mongolian fauna and flora, from red deer and argali to golden eagles and steppe birds. Its accessibility, around 100 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar, has also made it a popular gateway for visitors interested in Mongolia's wild landscapes.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
