Kiauneliškis Nature Reserve

Kiauneliškis Nature Reserve is a small protected area in eastern Lithuania, located in the Švenčionių district municipality within the Aukštaitija ethnographic region. It forms part of the broader Labanoro Regional Park and is administered under the Labanoro-Pabradė forest system. The reserve was established specifically to preserve a surviving fragment of old-growth forest, a representative stand of moist sandy pine woodland on undulating East Aukštaitija lowlands, and traditional capercaillie mating grounds. The protected territory covers roughly 283 hectares of forested land in the Antaliedė forest district, extending northeast from the Molėtai–Kaltanėnai–Ignalina road toward the village of Kiauneliškis. Despite its compact size, the reserve contains notable landscape features such as three small lakes, exceptionally old Scots pines, and memorial markers commemorating the post-war Lithuanian partisan struggle. The reserve is recognized as one of Lithuania's clearest references for ancient sandy pine forest on glacial lowland terrain, and it remains an important ecological reference site within the wider Labanoro forest landscape of northeastern Lithuania.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
