Monumento Natural Arístides Rojas

Monumento Natural Arístides Rojas, popularly known as Los Morros de San Juan, is a protected natural monument in central Venezuela, located on the outskirts of San Juan de los Morros, the capital of the state of Guárico. The site is defined by a striking cluster of jagged limestone hills, or morros, that rise sharply from the surrounding landscape and form one of the most recognizable geological landmarks in the region. The hills are composed of ancient reef limestone laid down when a shallow sea covered this part of present-day Venezuela roughly 80 million years ago, during the Paleocene. Over time, the marine sediments were uplifted and exposed, producing the serrated, tooth-like silhouettes that give the area its name and visual identity. Declared a natural monument in 1949 and administered by Venezuela's Instituto Nacional de Parques, the protected area safeguards both a distinctive geological formation and a scenic viewpoint overlooking the city of San Juan de los Morros. It is also known for the small caves that have developed within its rocky structure, making it a notable site for geology, regional identity, and outdoor appreciation in the Venezuelan llanos.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
