Monumento Natural Cueva Alfredo Jahn

Monumento Natural Cueva Alfredo Jahn is a protected natural area centered on an actively forming limestone cave system in the Cordillera de la Costa of Venezuela. Located about four kilometers west of the town of Birongo in the state of Miranda, the cave occupies the eastern end of the Serranía Litoral and rises between approximately 60 and 300 meters above sea level within a humid, warm, and rainy tropical landscape. With horizontal galleries extending roughly 4.29 kilometers and fifteen known entrances, the cave is the largest in Venezuela's central region and one of the most frequently visited in the country. The site was declared a Natural Monument on December 12, 1978, and is named after Alfredo Jahn, a pioneering Venezuelan scientist who founded the Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales and contributed to geography, geology, botany, and several other disciplines. The cave is still being shaped by the Quebrada Cambural, whose waters carve, dissolve, and decorate the calcitic and dolomitic marbles of the Mesozoic Las Mercedes Formation. Spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, including the famous Chaguaramo column in the Rain Hall, make Cueva Alfredo Jahn an important site for both geological research and adventure-based natural tourism.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
