Caravelle Peninsula National Nature Reserve

The Caravelle Peninsula National Nature Reserve is a protected natural area on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, in the French Caribbean. Established in 1976, it covers roughly 388 hectares at the eastern tip of the Caravelle Peninsula, near the town of La Trinité. The reserve protects a distinctive mix of coastal habitats, including mangrove, cliffs, small islets, and dry forest, together with rare birdlife of strong Caribbean biogeographic interest. Geologically, the peninsula is one of the oldest land surfaces in the Lesser Antilles, belonging to an early Caribbean formation arc that dates back some 25 million years. This ancient origin gives the Caravelle a distinctive landscape and ecological character compared with the younger volcanic zones of the rest of Martinique. The reserve is part of the broader Martinique Regional Natural Park and is managed through that institution. The area is also notable for its cultural heritage, most famously the ruins of Château Dubuc, a classified historic monument that draws a very large number of visitors each year and makes the reserve one of the most visited protected natural sites in Martinique.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
