Réserve naturelle régionale du site géologique de Limay

The Réserve naturelle régionale du site géologique de Limay is a small but unusually rich regional nature reserve in the Île-de-France region of north-central France. It sits in the commune of Limay, within the Yvelines department, on the right bank of a meander of the Seine, just outside the boundaries of the Parc naturel régional du Vexin français. What makes the reserve distinctive is its dual identity: it is simultaneously a geological heritage site and a living mosaic of habitats. The reserve occupies an abandoned limestone and clay quarry whose exposed faces and plateau reveal rock layers spanning roughly 35 million years of the geological history of the Paris Basin, from the end of the Cretaceous period into the Lutetian stage of the Eocene. After a half century of industrial extraction, the site has been reclaimed by nature, and today a dense patchwork of dry and wet habitats supports a remarkable level of biodiversity for such a compact, peri-urban area. Created in 2009 and co-managed by the commune of Limay and the Parc naturel régional du Vexin français, the reserve functions as both a conservation site and an outdoor classroom, with regulated access and year-round educational programming for school groups and the general public.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
