Roc de Chère

Roc de Chère is a small forested limestone promontory that rises about 200 m above the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, on the edge of the communes of Talloires and Menthon-Saint-Bernard in Haute-Savoie, France. Despite covering barely 69 hectares, it supports more than 560 species of flowering plants, a striking figure explained by the unusual coexistence of acidic sandstone ridges, calcareous slopes, a boggy hollow, and warm, dry lake-facing cliffs within a single compact site. Because of this ecological richness, the area was classified as a national nature reserve in 1977, and part of it is also owned by the Conservatoire du littoral. Today ROC de Chère is recognized as one of the most botanically significant small protected areas in the French Alps, where alpine and sub-Mediterranean species grow literally side by side. Beyond its conservation value, the promontory is a defining landscape feature of Lake Annecy, separating the large lake from the small one and creating the iconic bay of Talloires. It also carries deep historical traces, from medieval monastic use to its present role as a protected natural landmark.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
