Colonial commons, training farm, and migrant gateway preserved on the Cumberland Plain

Scheyville National Park

Scheyville National Park is a 920-hectare protected area located in the northwestern suburbs of Sydney, approximately 40 kilometres northwest of the city centre, near the historic settlement of Scheyville in New South Wales. The park occupies a significant position on the Cumberland Plain, an area of fertile farmland that was among the earliest land colonized by Europeans in Australia. Longneck Lagoon dominates the northern section of the park, forming part of the Hawkesbury wetlands system. The park is distinguished by its remarkable layered history, having served successively as a colonial common, agricultural training farm, military training camp, migrant holding centre, and officer training unit facility before being gazetted as a national park in 1996. This continuity of use has left the landscape with substantial archaeological evidence while also preserving the largest remaining remnant of Cumberland Plain Grey Box and Ironbark Woodland in the region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
