Boorabbin National Park

Boorabbin National Park is a protected area in the eastern goldfields region of Western Australia, situated along the Great Eastern Highway between the towns of Coolgardie and Southern Cross. Established in 1977, the park encompasses approximately 281 square kilometres of semi-arid landscape centred on an ancient sand plateau. The park derives its name from both an Aboriginal rock formation at its edge and the historic Boorabbin settlement established in 1898. This landscape features deep sand deposits laid down over 50 million years ago, creating a distinctive environment where diverse kwongan heath communities, woodlands and mallee shrublands thrive despite the nutrient-poor soils. The plateau supports a remarkable variety of vegetation with endemic species adapted to the harsh conditions, while the park provides habitat for seventeen native mammal species, over fifty reptile species, fifty-one bird species and numerous amphibians.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
