Corredor Biológico Chichinautzin

The Corredor Biológico Chichinautzin is a Mexican protected area designated for the conservation of flora and fauna, located in the northwestern portion of the state of Morelos. It extends into the western part of the State of Mexico and reaches the southern delegations of Mexico City, including Milpa Alta and Tlalpan, making it one of the few protected areas that directly borders the country's capital. Established on 30 November 1988, the area functions as a biological corridor that physically connects two major national parks, El Tepozteco and Lagunas de Zempoala, creating a continuous stretch of conserved highland landscape across central Mexico. This connectivity is at the heart of the area's identity, allowing wildlife and ecological processes to flow between protected zones that would otherwise be isolated. The corridor is ecologically significant for the diversity of plants and animals it shelters, and also for the hydrological role it plays as a recharge zone for the aquifers that supply many of Morelos' principal cities. Placed at the southern edge of the Mexico City metropolitan area, it also serves as an environmental buffer for the heavily populated Cuernavaca Valley.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
