Mummel Gulf National Park

Mummel Gulf National Park is a protected area in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia, established in 1999 as part of the regional forest agreement process. The park covers approximately 122 square kilometres of rugged escarpment country on the south-eastern edge of the New England region, roughly 487 kilometres north of Sydney and 50 kilometres southeast of the town of Walcha. The park is centred around the dramatic Mummel Gulf, a deep V-shaped gorge carved by the Mummel River, which exceeds 400 metres in depth in the head of the gorge. The area supports a diverse range of vegetation communities including tall open eucalypt forest, wet sclerophyll forest, snow gum forest at higher elevations, and patches of subtropical rainforest in the moist central and southern sections. This ecological diversity supports numerous threatened species including koalas, tiger quolls, and several species of gliders and owls, making the park significant for conservation in the New England region.
