Shorsky National Park

Shorsky National Park is a large protected area in the southern part of Kemerovo Oblast in southwestern Siberia, Russia. It covers a substantial portion of the Gornaya Shoria mountain region, a landscape of deeply dissected ridges, river valleys, and dense dark coniferous taiga. The park was established in 1989 and is administered from the town of Tashtagol. Its territory is dominated by mountain taiga, with elevations rising from moderate foothills to peaks above 1,600 meters, and the land is shaped by the river network of the Mras-Su and its tributaries. The combination of rugged terrain, continental climate, and extensive old-growth coniferous forest gives the park its distinct ecological character. Shorsky protects one of the most intact forest landscapes of southern Siberia. It safeguards populations of brown bear, moose, Siberian musk deer, sable, and numerous bird species, while also preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the Shor people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Gornaya Shoria region. The park is part of the Altai-Sayan ecological region and remains an important refuge for taiga biodiversity.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
