Fuentes Brotantes de Tlalpan National Park

Fuentes Brotantes de Tlalpan National Park is a national park located in the Tlalpan borough of southern Mexico City, Mexico. Established on September 28, 1936 by presidential decree of Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, the park was created with the primary objective of preserving the forests and natural springs that emerge from the foothills of the Sierra del Ajusco volcanic mountain range. The park's name translates from Spanish as "bubbling springs," referring to the natural springs that have defined this landscape for centuries. Originally encompassing 129 hectares, the park has been significantly reduced by urban expansion and now covers approximately 8 hectares. Despite its small size, the park serves as an important ecological island within the densely populated metropolitan area, providing habitat for wildlife and offering residents a rare opportunity to experience natural landscapes within the city. The park is classified as IUCN Category II and remains one of the few remaining natural spring areas in Mexico City, representing a significant conservation priority in an otherwise highly urbanized environment.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
