Korab-Koritnik Nature Park

Korab-Koritnik Nature Park is a large protected natural area in eastern Albania, spanning the mountainous borderlands with Kosovo and North Macedonia. Established in 2011 and covering roughly 55,550 hectares, the park forms a section of the European Green Belt, a transnational corridor designed to protect habitats along the former Iron Curtain line. The park's terrain is strongly alpine, dominated by the Korab and Koritnik massifs and their surrounding valleys, rivers, glacial lakes, caves and canyons. Forests of both coniferous and deciduous species blanket much of the middle elevations, while exposed ridges, rock walls and high mountain meadows define the upper zones. The wide elevation range creates a striking diversity of climates, plant communities and wildlife within a single protected territory. Beyond its scenic and recreational value, the park holds real ecological importance. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists it as Category IV, while Plantlife has separately recognized both Korab and Koritnik as Important Plant Areas of international significance. Together these designations frame the park as a key refuge for endangered species and a critical component of Albania's protected-area network.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate
