Mount Parnassus National Park

Mount Parnassus National Park protects a large limestone massif in central Greece, just north of the Gulf of Corinth and overlooking the ancient sanctuary of Delphi. Situated in the Central Greece region within the regional unit of Phthiotis, the park encompasses rugged alpine terrain, subalpine meadows, fir forests, and a deeply carved karst landscape that rises toward the mountain's upper elevations. The massif is one of the ten national parks of Greece and holds a unique dual identity as both a protected natural area and a major cultural landmark. In Greek mythology it was sacred to Apollo and the nine Muses, while in modern life the same slopes host Greece's largest ski resort. The combination of mythological heritage, geological character, alpine biodiversity, and winter recreation makes Mount Parnassus one of the most distinctive protected landscapes in the country. Beyond its symbolic weight, the park reflects the conservation challenges of modern Greece. Intensive bauxite mining from the late 1930s onward, followed by the development of ski infrastructure, left environmental scars across the massif. The establishment of the national park represents an effort to safeguard the surviving ecosystems, mountain habitats, and scenic value of this iconic Greek mountain.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
