Ñacunday National Park

Ñacunday National Park is a protected area in the Alto Paraná department of eastern Paraguay, encompassing approximately 20 square kilometers of the Atlantic forest ecoregion. The park's defining feature is Salto Ñacunday, a striking waterfall roughly 35 to 40 meters high and 110 meters wide that drops dramatically along the Ñacunday River. Established originally as the Ñacunday Protector Forest in 1975 and redesignated as a national park in 1993, this protected area represents one of Paraguay's most significant conservation spaces, preserving a remnant of the once-vast Alto Paraná Atlantic forests that once blanketed much of eastern Paraguay and adjacent Brazil and Argentina. The park sits at the transition between tropical and subtropical zones, with rich biodiversity and cultural significance tied to the Mbya Guaraní communities who have inhabited the region for generations.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
