Zimbabwe's highest mountain park in the Eastern Highlands

Nyanga National Park

Nyanga National Park is one of Zimbabwe's oldest and most distinctive protected areas, situated in the Eastern Highlands near the border with Mozambique. Established in 1926 as Rhodes Inyanga National Park through a bequest from Cecil Rhodes, the park encompasses 472 square kilometres of rolling downland, montane grasslands, and Afromontane forests at elevations between 1,800 and 2,593 metres. The park contains Mount Nyangani, Zimbabwe's highest mountain, and Mutarazi Falls, the country's tallest waterfall dropping 762 metres in two stages over granite cliffs. The landscape is characterized by well-watered valleys, numerous streams and rivers, and a unique mosaic of vegetation communities that support remarkable biodiversity. The park incorporates the former Mutarazi Falls National Park on its southern boundary and has expanded significantly through land purchases in the late 1990s and 2014, now protecting critical watershed areas and montane ecosystems.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
