Ouadi Qadisha

Ouadi Qadisha, also known as the Kadisha Valley or Holy Valley, is a dramatic gorge in northern Lebanon carved by the Kadisha River. The valley lies within the Bsharri and Zgharta Districts of the North Governorate, at the foot of Mount al-Makmal. Its name derives from the Aramaic word meaning 'Holy,' reflecting the valley's extraordinary significance as one of the oldest centers of Christian monasticism in the world. The steep cliff sides, reaching over 1,000 meters in places, contain numerous caves that have served as monastic dwellings, chapels, and shelters for centuries. The valley is closely associated with the nearby Forest of the Cedars of God, which preserves surviving specimens of the ancient Cedars of Lebanon, trees of immense historical and biblical importance. In 1998, UNESCO inscribed the valley on the World Heritage List in recognition of its role as the site of some of the earliest Christian monastic settlements and its continued example of living Christian faith.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
