Qurm Nature Reserve

Qurm Nature Reserve is a small but ecologically significant coastal protected area in the Muscat Governorate of northeastern Oman. It sits on the Gulf of Oman coast within the urban district of Qurm, where the former delta and estuary of Wadi Aday opens toward the sea. The reserve protects one of the largest remaining mangrove forests in the Gulf of Oman ecoregion, along with the surrounding tidal flats, sabkha, dunes, and alluvial plain. Established in 1975, the reserve has international recognition for both its coastal wetland character and its avian importance. It was designated an Important Bird Area in 1994, and a portion of its lower wetland area was designated a protected Ramsar site in 2013. Despite its modest size and location within a major urban area, it plays an important role in sustaining marine productivity along this stretch of coast and supporting migratory waterbirds that use the Central Asian-Indian Flyway.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
